It's realism is just fantastic. There is a level of humour we never really see in war films. It has a genuine level of humour - typical bickering between soldiers feels real, not like it was written in a script.

There's one scene for example where the soldier is trying to defuse a bomb. One of his soldiers asks him over the radio, "how are you doing?" The bomb defuses responds with, "I'm doing wonderful. How are you doing?" as if to say "how the hell do you think I'm doing?"

It's not slapstick humour like I know that might sound, but the way it's executed is really genuine. There isn't a huge amount of action, but when there is, the sound is loud and it's shot beautiful with plenty of suspense. There is one scene in particular when they are stranded in the desert. It goes for about 20 minutes, and it's just about them trying to sniper some Iraqi hostiles hiding in a bunker 1km away. They sniper each other back and forth. It's fantastic directing. The suspense is riveting.

Then there are several bomb defusing scenes. The mixture of humour with suspense and thrilling camera work just make them all "work". The main character is a real gem, as are the side-characters. Everyone is memorable in this. There's humour, grief, action, suspense, emotion.

Anyways, a really fun movie. There's some awesome action scenes here, one with a giant minotaur, a battle against a five-headed firebreathing hydra, and a pretty cool encounter with Medusa. The special effects are pretty amazing too.

The cast is great and there are some big stars here. It just seems as though so many people don't get it.

I always got the impression that Pinbacker was God, or something along those lines. The sun is looked at as a God-like figure in many cultures, and the human race's attempt to fix (or attack) the natural progression of the Sun made God angry. Pinbacker wasn't necessarily Pinbacker the Captain, but rather a man acting as a messenger or something for God in an attempt to sabotage the mission and allow the natural progression to continue.

In the end, human's ultimately win, which I guess can be looked at as an anti-religious undertone, as if to say God has no and should not have direct influence on our lives and our progression as a species - we are on our own and our own progression and evolution can and should only be determined based on our own intelligence.

I don't think Pinbacker's appearance and the sudden "turn" in the third act ruined the film. The Sun is incredibly important, and as I mentioned above, it's very existence is the basis of many cultural and religious beliefs. I think the film touched on things many don't dare too.

That's what I always thought anyway. People always just expected the movie to end well with no real twist, and the sudden turn to horror ruined it. I started this thread more as a discussion point for up until the film is released in November. Now whilst I think it will be awesome, I believe it has "flop" written all over it. A bad title and a no-name cast, with an usual plot-line and a massive budget, begs the question why we are getting it. Personally I think it's cause it will be awesome, another classic in the same vein as The Matrix, something that was never meant to be "big" but becomes a massive cult hit spawning billions in revenue and sequels!

Keanu wants to do it, Francis wants to do it, the studio wants to do it, but for some reason everytime they try to get this going it falls flat.

Now they apparently have a script, but Reeves and Lawrence want to go Hard R with the sequel. The first was R but not a hard R and in the end it only just covered the budget (production and advertising). The studio on the other hand wants to do it, but they want it PG-13 to cover all bases, which is fair considering the first wasn't a monster hit. It did however make a cool $230 million world-wide, but sadly only $75 million in the US (the place that matters).

For those that follow Constantine news as much as I, you know that every 6 months or so someone involved talks about how it is going well and it is going to shot soon. Yes well the movie came out 5 years ago and I want my ****ing sequel now. Francis had excellent vision with the first and the studio should follow his gut. They should let him do Constantine before letting him go ahead on this stupid I Am Legend prequel.

Please don't ruin the potential by doing a sequel in 5 years or doing remake in 15 years. I, and I think many others, would give our left leg to go see another Constantine in cinemas!!

Loved Travolta in this. As soon as Charlie Wax is introduced, the body count rises and rises and rises. He's in Paris for not three hours and he kills dozens of baddies. There's some awesome shootouts here. First stop: Chinese restaraunt. It's all pretty over top. A couple of little surprises thrown in, a cracking pace (only 90 mins running time), some nice action, laughs as well as a small Pulp Fiction nod all makes for a fun night out at the movies (with a big bag of popcorn in hand). In short, the studio is throwing out all of Raimi's ideas in favour of their own. They did the exact same thing with Spidey 3 and look how well that turned out.

The production has been put on hiatus, the studio won't do what Raimi wants and Raimi won't do what the studio wants. If this doesn't get sorted soon than Raimi could drop it all together and move on with his new Evil Dead and World of Warcraft.
